After being traded to Los Angeles in August 1988, The Great One came back to Edmonton’s Northlands Coliseum for the 1989 All-Star Game wearing the Campbell Conference sweater six months after the most talked-about trade in hockey history, in front of the city that had watched him win four Stanley Cups.
In his first season on the LA Kings, Gretzky won the Hart Trophy as the league’s MVP. Gretzky also happened to win the MVP of this 1989 All-Star game with a goal and 2 assists in the game.
