Mel Bridgman was just the second captain in Devils history, bringing toughness, leadership, and offensive firepower to a young franchise still finding its identity. A former #1 overall draft pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1975, Bridgman was a hard-nosed competitor who could put up points and drop the gloves with the best of them. Bridgman eventually finished his NHL career with 701 points and over 1,600 penalty minutes.
