The 1991 tournament was played in September, just 3 months before the Soviet Union dissolved, so the USA vs USSR game in the Canada Cup that September was the last one ever of that legendary matchup.

Chelios was in his prime in 1991, already established as one of the most punishing defensemen in the game. He represented the US in this tournament as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks, a year into what became one of the signature chapters of his Hall of Fame career.
