On August 28, 1997, in new general manager Dave Taylor’s first move, the Kings re-acquired Robitaille from the Rangers in exchange for Kevin Stevens. This was Robitaille’s return to LA after spending the first 8 season of his career there.

Robitaille retired as the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer among left wingers with 668, holds the Kings’ franchise record for goals with 577, and made eight All-Star teams across his career. He became only the second player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points after being drafted in the 9th round or later. The Kings retired his number 20 in January 2007, and a bronze statue sits outside the Kings’ arena since 2015.  Robitaille was inducted him into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009.
