In 2022 the Angels unveiled this Southern California/surf-inspired set with lots of “storytelling” elements to wade through. The cream Flex Base jersey has red team script on front (inspired by vintage surfboard lettering), with a sweeping underscore capped off with a surfboard “fish tail” and two, left-sleeve-only fabric-sublimated red stripes (based on vintage surfboard striping). The blue/gray front and back uniform numbers are styled after numbers seen on California lifeguard towers, and the diamond around the front number is “inspired by various local vintage surfboard brands.” Cresting the Nike tag on the hem is a surfboard graphic with the LA Angels halo. And to sink the whole surfing metaphor, the right sleeve patch is an homage to vintage California railroad signs, and marks the first time the Angels have used “Los Angeles” on a uniform since adopting the city name (changing from Anaheim) in 2005.
