The Tigers wore this obscure, yet visually appealing, uniform just one time before retiring them forever. The alternate jersey was made to be worn during Sunday home games starting in the 1995 season. Supposedly, the Tigers execs didn’t like the idea of a home jersey without names on the back, so they shelved the jersey after just one game. The “D” with Tiger inside logo was a fan favorite, but after retiring these awesome jerseys, the logo was only used on batting practice jerseys for a short stint, and then never again since.
1995 was Kirk Gibson’s final season before retirement, as he was able to finish out his legendary career with the team he won two World Series championships with.
