Vintage (Pre-2001)

Before 2001, brands partnered with individual NFL teams to become their exclusive game jersey suppliers. This made for wildly differing jersey specs from team to team. For example, some teams wore jerseys with vinyl, screen printed, or "painted on" numbers and lettering into the early 2000s, while others wore jerseys with high quality sewn twill numbers and lettering. Some of the oddball jersey suppliers included Apex One, Logo Athletic, and MacGregor. The way a jersey fits can also vary wildly between brands and eras, and many jerseys made before 1970 are known to shrink significantly from being washed and dried over and over throughout the years.
